Are you looking to replace your humidifier, or improve your systems ability to produce humidity?
There are products to produce humidity for any home and scenario. What are they?
Humidifiers basically fall into three categories:
1. Bypass
2. Power
3. Steam
Bypass Humidifier
A bypass humidifier is the most common humidifier. This is a trusted product that can produce humidity for large homes even on a one furnace system.
Water drips into the top of a pad and water slowly goes through the pad. The air being pushed by the blower motor is forced across this pad filled with water and produces humidity. The now humidified air is inserted into your ductwork and moves around your home.
A bypass works when your furnace blower motor is turned on, so this does have limitations. When the furnace is not on, this product can not produce humidity. So on mild days, your home may have lower humidity. The base bypass we install can handle up to 3500 square feet, so they are very popular and come in at a reasonable price point.
Power Humidifier
The power model is basically a bypass with a power fan added to it. The reason for this product is that it will produce humidity and push the humidified air at a faster rate into your system.
What's the advantage? On more mild days when your furnace isn't running as much, this model will keep it closer to the desired humidity level. Once installed, this humidifier also has the same maintenance costs as the basic bypass model. Simply change the pad once a year.
Steam Humidifier
The steam humidifier is the ultimate in humidity control. This model uses a very small amount of water, as it sits in a canister and starts to boil. This boiled water creates steam that is inserted into your system. After the water is used for a specified time, it is released into the drain and new water comes in.
Besides how it creates humidity, it also is superior in how it works separate from your furnace calling for heat. The steam humidifier will turn on the furnace blower motor when it needs to add humidity to the home. In other words, It is not dependent on the furnace running. Because of that, this model keeps the humidity at the precise level you tell it to. No matter the climate outside, you will have humidity exactly where you want it!
This model is especially popular if you have hardwood floors, expensive wood furniture, or instruments like a piano or guitar. The humidity protects your investments, so have precise control ensures your belongings will stay safe.
So next time you look at purchasing a humidifier, weigh your options. Most companies may not even explain that you have options. We would be happy to talk about your humidity needs and select the model that makes the most sense for you.
